När Alex Turner, Arctic Monkeys sångare och låtskrivare, fick veta att hans flickvän Alexa Chung hade tackat ja till ett jobb i New York och då hon bestämde sig för att flytta dit från London så började Alex att skriva en låt om det. Låten beskriver också hur han tycker det är att ha sin tjej 5586 kilometer bort och fick namnet Fire And The Thud.
